UFC Fight Night Results are after the jump
Here we are, September 19th 2007. UFC Fight Night Live and the first fight is about to begin. September has already been a great month with UFC 75 and there is much more to come with UFC 76 this weekend. Tonight though is all about the Ultimate Fighter alumni including Din Thomas, Kenny Florian, Nate Diaz and others. Stay with me as I comment on the fights round by round. Feel free to comment yourself.
Nate Quarry vs Pete Sell
We seem to be missing part of the audio as Joe Rogan is explaining the type of back surgery that Nate Quarry underwent. He had two discs fused together. I hope they fix the announcer audio problems soon
Or, hey UFC Results may be the only commentary you guys get!
Both fighters look to be in excellent shape. Nate looks a little hesitent and drago looks pretty good.
Round 1
Quick knee by Quarry is answered by a big shot by Sell. They are exchanging hard shots. This fight won't last long. More knees by Quarry, now Sell has him up against the fence and is doing some dirty boxing. Sell takes Quarry down and you can hear Matt Serra shouting from Drago's corner. Nate stands back up, still in the clinch dirty boxing. knees and foot stomps by Drago and the ref separates them. Big punches and elbo from Quarry who seems to be getting the best of the standup now. Both of these guys hit hard, so it could end quickly. Good jab by Drago and lame kick byQuarry. ouch, Quarry took a big shot. Both guys are going to feel this tomorrow. Drago looks to be gassing already. More big knees by Quarry, who is bleeding from the nose (BTW still no Joe Rogan). One minute left and both guys are bleeding from their noses. Good jab by Sell missed left hook by Quarry and Sell lands again. Sell is now getting the better of the standup...first round is over.
Wow, I can't call that round. Maybe Sell because of the takedown.
Note: The commentary by Joe Rogan and Goldie is not happening.
Round 2
Ah, the announcers are back.
Big shots early by Sell. A couple of good leg kicks by Quarry..again. Buig keft by Sell. Sell knocks Quarry to the canvas, Quarry got back up though. Pete Sell is now smiling...another big shot by Sell. Pete Sell takes him to the ground and is trying a guillotine. Quarry gets back up. Good uppercut by Sell and they are apart again. Sell staggered a bit, but not by a punch. Superman punch by Sell...didn't land. Sell lands another right hand. Quarry is stalking, but not throwing any shots. Sell lands another two shots and Quarry responds with a leg kick. The rounds ends. I give round 2 to Sell.
Round 3
In my opinion, Nate Quarry needs either a two point round (to draw) or a TKO to win this fight.
Nate takes the center quickly, his corner must have told him to pick up the pace. He lands a good jab on Sell, but gest nailed by a right. Sell is swinging for the fences, but gets nailed by Quarry...the ref doesn't step in right away so Quarry finishes it with a big right hand on the ground.
Winner : Nate Quarry
I didn't predict on that fight (not sure why not), so I'm still 0-0 on my UFC Fight Night predictions.
Junior Assuncao vs Nate Diaz
3" Height advantage to Diaz, but no reach advantage.
Round 1
Good leg kicks early by Junior, now they are in the clinch. Nate is landing some loose shots from the clinch. Diaz throws Junior, Diaz trying to lock an arm. Diaz goes for the Kimura again. Nate is on the bottom on the ground, but attempting a submission. There are no punches coming down at this time. Junior attempting a choke, unsuccesful. Fight is back to the feet. Big punches by Diaz and they are on the ground again. Diaz is attempting a guillotine. Junior Assuncao taps.
Winner Nate Diaz by submission.
Chris Leben vs Terry Martin
Round 1
Don't blink! Leben lands early. Martin misses. Leg kicsk by Leben. Martin takes it to the ground, Leben has guard. Elbows from below from Leben. Leben was looking for an armbar, I'm impressed with Leben's ground work so far. Leben lands a couple of knees after taking a shot from Martin. Martin lands a good right hand. Terry Martin attempting a takedown, but does not get it. They are just pawing each other from the clinch. One point taken away from Leben for grabbing the fence, but he goes down anyway. Leben gets some foot stomps in before the end of the round.
If that point wasn't taken away I would have given that round to Leben, but with the point I will put it even at 9-9.
Round 2
Good knees to start by Leben. More foot stomps by Leben. Now we will see if Martin gasses. Good uppercut by Leben. Martin looks slow, uppercut attempt by Martin. Chris Leben is still working foot stomps from the clinch. Martin lands a body shot and it's back to the clinch again. Leben lands some little shots and a foot stop. Big home run punch attempts by Martin, but they are not landing. Leben is moving backward, I wonder how the judges will see that. Martin takes Leben down again, this time he is on top of him. Leben gets guard. Leben looks like he's landing more damage from the bottom than Martin is from the top. Leben has a triangle, Martin is fighting it, but is not out. I think Martin is going to sleep. Round 2 ends.
Round 2 has to go to Leben based on that triange, activity from the bottom and striking.
Round 3
Leben is very tired. Attempting that triange seems to have taken the life out of him. Martin looks better this round. Martin takes Leben down again. Leben is active from the bottom, Martin doing nothing from the top. Neither of these two will do well in 5 rounds with this cardio. Leben looks dizzy, Martin lands. Knee to the body by Terry Martin. Chris Leben got a takedown, but Terry rolled it before even hitting the canvas. This is a hard round to judge so far. They are up again and Martin lands a big shot. Wow! Leben knocks out Martin after getting rocked by Terry Martin. I need to watch the replay to see what happened. Oh, it was a huge left hook by a hurt Leben and then another big left on the ground. Leben wins.
Winner Chris Leben
I had picked Martin to win this one, so now I'm 0-1
Kenny Florian vs Din Thomas
Round 1
Lots of kicks by Florian and a few punches by Thomas. Florian nails Thomas right in the cup...Din takes some time to recover. Florian slips and the fight goes to the ground...back up after an elbow by Thomas. Florian takes Thomas down. Not sure what happened to Thomas, but he is using the turtle defense. Forian has Thomas back and Thomas taps.
I wonder what happened to Thomas, he shot, then went down and just turtled for about a minute. It looks like Thomas blew out his knee on the shot.
Winner : Kenny Florian
I picked Kenny Florian which puts me at 1-1 tonight.
Other results tonight are:
Luke Cummo beat Edilberto Crocota via TKO
Cole Miller defeated Leonard Garcia via decision ( I picked Garcia)
Gray Maynard defeated Joe Veres via TKO
Thiago Alves beat Kuniyoshi Hironaka via TKO (I picked Alves)
Dustin Hazelett won over Jonathan Goulet via submission
That puts me at 2-2 tonight. I'm sure that I predicted Maynard and Diaz too, but can't find that anywhere on the site...maybe I just meant to
Anyway, thanks for coming to the site. Don't forget to come back to UFC Results for UFC 76 Results

BTW, I noticed on the UFC website that Gray won in 9 seconds? Was it a KO in his first punch?
